Williamsburg, KY – In today's doubleheader a combination of offensive struggles by the Pats and solid pitching and defense by the Lions, kept UC shutout in both games on Saturday. Game one had a final score of 2-0, and game two was 5-0. The Patriots falls to 13-7 on the season.
Game One:
Braxton Cottongame had a good day on the mound as he pitched 7.2 innings scattering seven hits, two runs, one walk and three strikeouts. Both runs where given up in the extra innings. This goes down as Cottongame's first loss of the season.
Chipper Korbacher came in relief with two outs in the top of the eighth, and allowed one hit, one walk, and one strikeout.
The Patriots was able to get eight hits throughout the game but could never reach home.
Seth Benner went 3-3 with three singles.
Charlie Muniz went 1-3 as he hit a double and continued his streak of at least one hit per game.
Game Two:
Hunter Rigsby would get the start in the final game of the series and suffered his first loss of the season. As he pitched 5.0 innings allowing seven hits, five runs, two earned runs, a walk, and seven strikeouts.
Jake Kmiecik would get his third appearance of the season, as he pitched 2.0 innings only giving up one hit, with two strikeouts.
On the offensive side for the Pats, they tallied three hits that came by way of a bunt single by
Raphy Almanzar, and singles from Muniz and
Ray Villanueva. Villanueva and Almanzar both came away with a stolen base.
The Patriots look to rebound in next week's mid-week matchup against 7
th ranked IU Southeast on Tuesday March 8
th at 2 pm in Williamsburg, KY.
