Patriots Sweep The Four Game Season Series Against Midway

Midway, KY– UC gets their fourth win of the season over Midway as they took the game 19-3 on Tuesday evening. Ray Villanueva had a great outing going 4-5 at the plate, while hitting two homeruns to move the Patriots win streak to eight and move the record to 32-14 on the season.

Garrett DeClue got the start and the win as he pitched 5.0 innings scattering three hits for no runs, three walks and eight strikeouts. He is now 3-0 on the season. Gabriel Ramos came in relief and pitched 3.0 innings giving up three runs of four hits, with a walk and five strikeouts. Jake Kmiecik also got an appearance as he pitched 1.0 innings allowing only one hit and three strikeouts.

Offensively, Villanueva led the way along with his two homers, he had a double and six RBIs. Sean Cheely had a good outing going 3-4 at the plate with a homerun and a double. Daniel Maldonado also had a homer, and Raphy Almanzar came away with two doubles.

In the first inning, UC put up one early run as Cheely led off with a double. Cheely would then advance to third on an error and scored on an RBI groundout by Charlie Muniz.

After DeClue struck out three batters, the Pats put on two runs to increase the lead to 3-0. Seth Benner started the inning off with a single through the left side. Two batters later, Luis Alvarez singled up the middle and Benner went to second. Cheely then hit a single up the middle for an RBI and went to second on a fielding error. That error also allowed Alvarez to come home.

After a couple scoreless innings, UC tacked on two more runs in the fifth. With two outs, Sujel Arias singled down the left field line, and stole second a few pitches later. Villanueva stepped up and hit his first homer of the day for the 5-0 lead.

In the Patriots next at-bat, Andres Rolon led off with a double to right center, an Alvarez got walked. Cheely then hit a shot over the left field fence for a three-run homer. Almanzar followed with a double to left field, and advanced to third on a passed ball. Another RBI groundout by Muniz sent Almanzar home for the score. Two batters later, Villanueva doubled to right center, and Benner followed with an RBI single to left field for the 8-0 lead.

In the top of the seventh with two outs, Kevin Perez got walked and Frank Garcia hit an RBI double to deep center for the 9-0 lead. Next, Rhett Gipe got walked and Ryan Shavers singled towards the shortstop to fill the bases. On a passed ball, UC would score a run as all the runners advanced.

The Eagles was able to put up three runs so they would not lose in a run rule in seven. UC then put up seven runs in the ninth to get the 19-3 lead. Perez led off with a single through the left side. Almanzar then got walked. Gipe would reach on an error to load the bases, and Chuck Bronson came into courtesy run. Two batters later with the bases still loaded, Villanueva stepped up and hit a grand slam to take the 16-3 lead. Then Maldonado stepped up and hit a bomb of his own to left center to take the 17-3 lead. Two batters later, Clay Shelton and Alvarez would get walked. Perez then got another single to fill the bases, and Almanzar notched a two RBI double to take the 19-3 lead.

Kmiecik gave up one hit then struckout three straight batters to end the game 19-3.

Cumberlands are back on the road tomorrow this time headed to Pippas Passes, KY to take on Alice Lloyd. The game is set to start at 2 pm.
