Williamsburg, KY– Patriots takes the series opener against Georgetown 15-3 on Friday afternoon. A big fifth and sixth inning features three homeruns to move the UC record to 36-12 on the season.
Starting the day on the mound was
Jake Kmiecik who pitched 6.0 innings scattering three runs over six hits, with a walk and two strikeouts. He would get the win and move his record to 3-0.
Gabriel Ramos came in and pitched 1.0 innings of relief allowed only one hit and one walk.
Offensively,
Candido Encarnacion led the way going 3-3 with a double and five RBIs.
Ray Villanueva went 2-3 with a double and stolen base.
Raphy Almanzar,
Charlie Muniz, and
Luis Alvarez all added a homerun each.
The game started slow for both offenses as the first run was not put up until the fifth as the Tigers scored one run. UC answered back with a nine spot in the bottom half of the inning. Encarnacion led off with a walk and
Andres Rolon got hit by a pitch to follow. Alvarez then laid down a sacrifice bunt to advance both runners.
Sean Cheely stepped up and tied the game with an RBI single. Almanzar followed with a three-run homer to left field to take the 4-1 lead. Muniz then singled through the left side and
Kevin Perez came into courtesy run.
Sujel Arias would reach first on an error, and Villanueva followed with a double over the right fielder that scored a run for the 5-1 lead. After a walk, Encarnacion notched a three RBI double for the 8-1 lead. After a pitching change, Rolon got an RBI single to left field for the 9-1 lead.
Georgetown was able to put up two runs in their next bat, before Cheely robbed a homerun back at the fence and a strikeout ending that half of the inning. The Pats put up six runs to expand their lead to 15-3. Muniz led off with a solo homer to left field for his 16
th of the season. Arias followed with a double down the left field line. Villanueva singled up the middle then stole second a few pitches later.
Seth Benner got walked to fill the bases. Encarnacion notched two more RBIs with a single through the left side for the 12-3 lead. On a wild pitch both runners advanced. Then Rolon got an RBI on a groundout for the 13-5 lead. Alvarez then came to the plate a hit a homerun to left center on the first pitch for the 15-3 lead. UC was able to get three outs in the top of the seventh to get the run rule win.
Cumberlands return to action to close out the final series of the season with a doubleheader. The first game is set to start at noon and senior celebration will take place after the first game.
