Williamsburg, KY – After recorded season-best performances jumper Jullia Morris and goalie Will Settle have been selected as the Pepsi Athletes of the Week, announced by the athletic department Monday.
Morris was named the female athlete of the week after posting a new season-best performance at the Lee University Last Chance Meet. Morris leaped an 11.91m in the triple jump, which clipped the NAIA "A" standard of 11.75m. That performance was a 0.14 meters improvement over her previous season best and climbed her to tenth place in the NAIA performance list. Morris, the MSC triple jump champion, has qualified for the outdoor national championships later this month and finished fifth in the event. The freshman also clocked a 12.60 in the 100 meters dash.
Settle earned the male athlete of the week honors after notching 29 saves over the Patriots two games at the NAIA National Tournament. The senior keeper opened the week making 14 saves in UC's 8-7 win over Tennessee Wesleyan. Settle made eight saves during the second quarter, keeping the Bulldogs off the board and helping UC take a 6-2 advantage into halftime. The Huntingtown, MD native add three saves in the second half and finished the game with four ground balls as the Patriots advanced to the semifinals for the fourth straight season. Settle followed that up by tying his season-high with 15 saves against Indiana Tech. The senior made six saves in the first quarter and had ten saves at halftime as UC trailed 5-4 at that point. It was the sixth straight game that the Patriots keeper has notched double-digit save totals.
