The Housekeeper Era Set to Begin in 99 Days as Patriots Release 2022 Football Schedule

5/20/2022 10:00:00 AM

Williamsburg, KY – The new era of University of the Cumberlands football is set to kick off in 99 days as Head Coach Shan Housekeeper announces the Patriots 2022 Football Schedule.  The slate features ten games, eight of which are against the Mid-South Conference, and five games set to take place at James H. Taylor, II Stadium.

"Every week we have a tough challenge, every week we have great chance to test our self and measure ourself against some of the best teams in the country," said Coach Housekeeper.

Coach Housekeeper is gearing up to lead the Patriots into their season and home opener on August 27 when they host rival Union in the Battle for the Brass Lantern.  With a 7 p.m. kickoff, UC seeks their fourth straight win over the Bulldogs and their seventh straight win in the rivalry at home.  It is the first time since 2013 that these two teams will meet in the season opener.
"We are looking to open with a great opponent and opportunity to play for the Brass Lantern," said Coach Housekeeper. "We have a lot of respect for Union and the program they run. We need to have great preparation leading up to that match up."

The following week, UC hits the road to take on AAC foe St. Andrews in Laurinburg, NC.  This marks the third time in the last five years that these two teams have meet with Cumberlands coming away victorious in the first two.

The Patriots will open Mid-South Conference play on September 17 when they host the defending MSC champions, Lindsey Wilson.  UC faces MSC newcomer Faulkner a week later as it will be the Patriots first trip to Montgomery, AL, since the 2012 season.

UC opens October welcoming Cumberland for the Homecoming Game on October 1st.  Cumberlands has taken two of the past three games from the Phoenix and will look to start the month with a victory.

Cumberlands will hit the road for two of the next three weeks as they travel to Bethel (Oct. 8) and Georgetown (Oct. 22).  Sandwiched between the two road games the Patriots host Pikeville on October 15.  UC has won four straight meetings over the Bears, including last year's 24-point come-from-behind victory, where the Patriots pulled out a 31-28 win.

The Patriots have two games slated in November, beginning with hosting Campbellsville on November 5.  UC has taken the last six meetings between the two schools, including three straight at James H. Taylor, II Stadium.  Prior to the game, Cumberlands will honor its 2022 senior class.

UC is set to close out the regular season a week later against Thomas More in Crestview Hills, Ky. with kickoff set for 1:30 p.m.

Coach Housekeeper added, "We are truly excited about the challenges this schedule presents.  The Mid-South Conference is full of great teams, every week we'll face a great opponent."
