Williamsburg, KY – After a standout season, Cumberlands baseball outfielder Sean Cheely signed his name on his first professional contract this past weekend. Cheely signed with the Lake Erie Crushers of the Frontier League. The Crushers play at Mercy Health Stadium in Avon, Ohio.

Head Coach Brad Shelton said, " Sean had arguably the best season of any leadoff hitter in the country. To steal 40 plus bags while driving in 50 runs is unheard of.  Most importantly, a great leadoff hitter scores runs. Sean scored 67!".  Coach Shelton also added, "His defense in center field saved us at least a run a game. He was a great leader and I'm thankful he chose to be with us. I look forward to following his professional career ".

The Austell, GA native has already played in two games and started one. So far he has gotten walked and scored one run and has four putouts and a 1.000 fielding percentage.Here's a highlight from one of his games so far:
 

During his lone season as a Patriot, Cheely earned first team all-conference honor, named a Co-SIDA First-Team All-American and was a MSC gold glove winner. During the season, he had a .336 batting average, while leading the team and the Mid-South in stolen bases with 47. The 47 stolen bases put him in fifth in the NAIA and second in the Pats history book for stolen bases in a season. Along with leading the way on the base path, Cheely has recorded 83 hits which puts him tied for sixth place on the single season hit record list. Of his 83 hits, 16 were doubles, four were triples, and eight was home runs, for a total of 51 RBIs. He also posted a .992 fielding percentage with 130 putouts and two assists while making one error the whole season.
