Kanas City, MO – Cumberlands center fielder Sean Cheely earned NAIA Gold Glove honors as a left fielder announced by the National Office Wednesday afternoon. This is the first Gold Glove for Cumberlands since Andrew Denton won in 2008.

Cheely earned this award after putting in an incredible season. For his play this year, the Austell, GA native was named First-Team all-conference, named a CoSIDA First-Team All-American, and was an MSC gold glove winner. He also recently signed a pro contract with the Lake Erie Crushers.

Cheely was mainly the center fielder for the Pats, but he also played the first eight games of the season in left field. During his lone season at UC, he posted a .992 fielding percentage with 130 putouts and two assists while making one error the whole season. Offensively, had a .336 batting average, while leading the team and the Mid-South in stolen bases with 47. The 47 stolen bases put him in fifth in the NAIA and put him in second on the Pats history book for stolen bases in a season. Along with leading the way on the base path, Cheely has recorded 83 hits which puts him tied for sixth place on the single season hit record list. Of his 83 hits, 16 were doubles, four were triples, and eight was homeruns, for a total of 51 RBIs.

Head Coach Brad Shelton said, " Sean was arguably the best defensive outfielder in the Mid-South and is well deserving of this award". Coach Shelton also added, "He saved so many runs with his ability to run down balls in the gap. He's already leaving his mark defensively in professional baseball as well."
