Bowling Green, KY - For the second time this season,
Stephen Appiah and
Pablo Vazquez swept the Mid-South Conference Player of the Week Awards, announced by the conference office Monday.
In the team's two games Appiah tallied three goals and an assist for a total of seven points. The first game of the week was against Freed-Hardeman where Appiah opened the scoring in the 19
th minute, which became the eventual game winner. The Louisville, KY native also scored the third goal of the match for his third brace of the season.
The second game for UC was against #23 Bethel and Appiah was instrumental in the 2-1 win, scoring and assisting in both goals. He once again scored the opening goal of the game and then assisted on the game winner to secure the team's fifth straight win.
Vazquez earned the win in both matches, playing all 180 minutes in goal. In the first match of the week, Vazquez recorded his third shutout of the season against Freed-Hardeman. Against Bethel, the Sevilla, Spain native recorded the most saves of his career with nine. Those nine saves in a single game are the most by any UC keeper since 2019. He only let in one goal against the Wildcats who came into the contest averaging four per game.
This is the second time this season that Appiah and Vazquez took home MSC honors in the same week. They are still the only teammates to sweep the awards this season by any team and the first in the MSC to do so since the 2020 season.
Cumberlands is set to return to the pitch this Wednesday for a home contest against Georgetown. The game is slated for a 7PM ET kick-off.
