Williamsburg, KY - In the team's first home Mid-South Conference duals of the season, the UC women's wrestling team went 1-1 on the evening. First, #8 Cumberlands dropped the close dual to #7 Indiana Tech 25-22 then bounced back against (RV) Montreat 43-5.
UC combined for 14 wins over the two duals with five wrestlers going undefeated. Both
Elizabeth Dosado and
Alexis Medina went 2-0 without any forfeits.
Ariana Pereira,
Chamira Cooper and
Jesse Kirby all picked up wins without giving up any points and then having a forfeit win in their second dual.
CUMBERLANDS DEFEATS MONTREAT, 43-5 (RESULTS) (PDF)
Angelina Castaneda started the dual off strong for the Patriots. She wasted no time, getting the pin at just 31 seconds to have UC up 5-0. Dosado followed that up with a tech fall win, blanking her opponent 10-0. At the 116-matchup Cumberlands got the forfeit win to be up 14-0.
In the 123 matchup Medina fought hard against 13
th ranked Trinity Howard. The two had a back-and-forth match before Medina earned the pin at 3:23.
Montreat picked up a win at 130, to make the score 19-5, but those would be the only team points they scored in the dual.
Olivia Hogan did not give up a single point to her opponent for the 10-0 tech fall.
In the 143-matchup
Sydney Dizon had one of the closest matches on the night. Dizon found herself both ahead and behind in the match, at one point down 12-6. But she was resilient, fighting her way back to make it 10-12. On her last move, Dizon got her opponent on her back for the pin at 4:09.
The last three matches were forfeit wins for UC to seal the win at 43-5.

INDIANA TECH BEATS CUMBERLANDS, 25-22 (RESULTS) (PDF)
Dosado started the dual this time at the 101-weight class. Ranked #5 Dosado had to face #4 Makayla Young. The match was highly contested, but Dosado was able to come away with the 9-4 decision win.
Despite the 3-1 lead for UC, Indiana Tech battled back with a pair of wins to go up 10-4 heading into the 123-matchup. Medina once again stepped to the occasion for UC and earned a win from a fall at 1:07, the second fastest fall by anyone in the dual.
The Warriors rattled off three more wins to put the dual out of reach for UC with a score of 25-9. But this did not deter the final wrestlers for Cumberlands, who all earned wins.
First Pereira ranked ninth (170) in the 155-weight class had to go up against #18 Grace Doering. The match was all Pereira, who did not allow Doering to score for the 11-0 tech fall win. Next was Cooper up in the 170-weight class. She executed a four point takedown and a few two-point takedowns to win via tec at 10-0.
Second ranked Kirby finished the dual against 15
th Riley Dempewolf. Kirby was all over her opponent early, with a takedown that led directly to a fall at 1:26. The win finished the scoring at 25-22 in favor of the Warriors.
The Patriots are now 10-9 for duals this season and 3-2 in MSC play. UC will next head to Franklin Springs, GA for the Robert Horton Open on January 22.
