Williamsburg, KY- With just two weeks remaining before the start of the season, Head Coach Sarah Allen has announced the 2023-24 women's wrestling schedule. UC's schedule is highlighted with five open tournaments, two dual tournaments, two duals, and eight MSC duals.
The Patriots will begin the year at the Trojan Open on November 4 in Mount Olive, NC. UC will follow with back-to-back weekends of tournaments at the Life Open (Nov. 11) and the Missouri Valley Open (Nov. 17-18). In the previous season,
MaQuoia Bernabe collected a second-place finish in the 191-weight class at the Life Open.
"We're heading to Mount Olive for our first official tournament and we're looking to get some great matches in. A few weeks later we will be headed to Missouri Valley, which is tougher than Nationals with every division wrestling at the tournament. It's going to be a great test for our girls and to see where everyone is at," contributes Head Coach Sarah Allen.
The Patriots will make their home debut and give Pats fans their first glimpse at UC wrestling at the annual Patriots Duals, taking place December 1-2. The Duals tournament will prep the Pats for the US Open in Fort Worth, TX (Dec. 15-16) and NWCA National Duals in Cedar Falls, IA (Jan. 5-6). Last season, UC finished in 11
th place at the NWCA National Duals and look to build upon their previous successes.
The following weekend will open MSC matches with the Patriots traveling to compete in a tri-dual against Siena Heights University and Lourdes University (Jan. 12). That same weekend, the Pats will travel to face King University (Jan. 14) then return back home for their first MSC home dual against Life University (Jan. 17).
"The competitive level in the Mid-South Conference is extremely tough and it's always great preparation for the National Tournament," added Head Coach Sarah Allen.
To finish the month of January, the Patriots will travel to compete in their second tri-dual against Indiana Tech and Rochester University (Jan. 26). UC will then compete in the Warrior Women's Open, where Bernabe (191),
Chamira Cooper (170), and
Ariana Pereira (155) placed third in their respective weight classes the previous year.
The Pats will open February with the Grand View Open (Feb. 3) then return home for an MSC match against Campbellsville University (Feb. 7). The final two duals of the season will see UC facing Montreat College (Feb. 10) and Brewton-Parker College (Feb. 15).
"For conference duals and the individual tournament our goal is to place in the top 3. We have a larger team this season that is going to help benefit us when it comes to duals. Our team is pretty young, but I don't doubt the younger girls are going to step up and make some noise this season," said Head Coach Sarah Allen.
The Patriots will head to Bowling Green, KY for the MSC Championship on February 15. Last season, UC's
Elizabeth Dosado (101) captured a conference championship and was named to MSC First-Team All-Conference.
The NAIA Nationals will take place once again in Jamestown, ND from March 8-9. For the 2022-23 season, UC claimed five All-Americans including returners Dosado and Bernabe.
On Thursday, October 26 the UC women's wrestling team will host their annual Red vs. Blue Dual showcasing this year's team in an intrasquad dual. The event will take place at 8 PM ET at the UC Volleyball Gym and livestream will be available on the UC Sports Network.
