Cumberlands Sweeps Cincinnati Clermont After Scoring 38 Runs

Williamsburg, KY- Patriots score 38 runs in a sweep over Cincinnati Clermont. UC took game one 14-1, followed by a 24-3 win behind three homeruns on the day for Raphy Almanzar.

Game One

Jorge Garcia got the start on the mound and pitched 6.1 innings. He pitched a no hitter through six innings before allowing a hit and run with five strikeouts to get his first win of the year. Josh Descher came in relief and pitched 0.2 innings.

In this game, Almanzar went 2-3 with a homer and two RBIs. Sujel Arias also went 2-3 three RBIs. Ryan Shavers had a good day as he went 2-4 with a double and an RBI. Caden Petrey had a 2-2 game with two RBIs and a walk.

UC scored the first run of the game in the first inning. Almanzar led off with a single; then the Cougars walked the next two batters to load the bases. The Pats would score on a double play to take the lead.

The Patriots added five runs in the second to extend the lead to 6-0. With one out, Evan St Claire got walked then stole second three pitches later. Josiah Santiago doubled to the right center gap to put runners on second and third. Petrey would notch an RBI single to right field. Santiago then came home to score on a wild pitch. After two walks, Arias would single to left field for two RBIs. Max Harper followed with another RBI single to left field to put the Pats up 6-0.

In the third, with one out, Petrey got walked. Almanzar then stepped to the plate and hit a homerun to left field to extend the lead to 8-0.

In their next at bat, Cumberlands added five more runs to take a commanding 13-0 lead. Harper started the inning by reaching on an error. Josh Simon singled to center field, and both runners advanced on a balk. Shavers then got an RBI from a single to left field. St Claire got hit by pitch to load the bases. Then Santiago would reach on an error and got two RBIs to make it an 11-0 game. Petrey followed with a RBI single to left field for the 12-0 lead. Two batters later, Arias notched an RBI single through the left side.

The Patriots scored one more run in the fifth. Shavers opened the inning with a double, and advanced to third on a wild pitch. Shavers then scored on a sacrifice fly from St Claire. Cincinnati Clermont got on the board in the top of the seventh, but the Patriots took the game 14-1.

Game Two

In game two the Patriots scored at least a run in every inning. Five different Patriots came away with homeruns, while seven hit doubles, and two hit triples. Almanzar led the way as he went 4-5 with two homeruns and six RBIs. While both Caden Petrey and Stephen Golson lone hits were homeruns. Shavers and Harper also hit a homerun each. Arias went 3-3 with a triple and two doubles. Picking up the win on the mound was Bryan Juarez, as he pitched 3.0 innings allowing one hit, no runs, and three strikeouts.

The Cougars jumped out to a 3-0 lead in their first at bat, and the Patriots held them at three after that. In the bottom half of the first, UC tied the game at 3-3. Almanzar led off with a homer. Then two batters later, Arias got walked, and Harper followed with a two run bomb over the left field fence that tied the game.

In the second inning, UC took the lead and never looked back, as Ben Snapp led off with a single through the left side. Petrey got hit by a pitch, and with two runners on Almanzar got a two RBI singles to go up 5-3. Muniz would notch a single and Arias got walked to fill the bases. Harper stepped to the plate and got an RBI from a sacrifice fly. A few plays later, St Claire got an RBI from a walk to make it a 7-3 game.

After a three up, three down inning, Petrey got his second homerun of the season with a lead off first pitch bomb to left field. Almanzar continued his hot streak at the plate with a single towards third. After a wild pitch, Charlie Muniz doubled down the left field line for an RBI. Then Arias doubled to left field for an RBI. Two batters later, Simon notched a double of his own for an RBI and the 11-0 lead. Shavers would come to the plate and hit a ball clear over the left field fence to extend the lead to 13-3.

In the Patriots next at bat, with one out Arias got his first triple of the year. Harper would get an RBI on a groundout to go up 14-3.

Then in the fifth inning, the Patriots added eight more runs to their lead. With one out, St Claire doubled down the left field line. Snapp would switch places with St Claire with an RBI double to center field. Then Luis Alvarez came to the plate and notched a single to left field to put runners on the corners. Then Almanzar stepped in the box and hit his third homer of the day for the 18-3 lead. After Muniz walked, Arias doubled to center, and Frank Garcia got an RBI as a run came home to score. Next Kevin Perez notched an RBI double down the left field line. The Patriots sent out Jaden Franklin, who single through the left side. Then Carter Grooms tripled down the left field line for two RBIs and the 22-3 lead.

UC added two more runs in the bottom of the sixth, as Garrett DeClue got walked in his first at bat of the season. Then Golson stepped to the plate and notched his first hit as a Patriot for a two-run bomb over the left field fence for the 24-3 lead.

Cumberlands will move to 8-1 and start MSC play on Thursday with a game against Lindsey Wilson. Then on Friday, they will have the doubleheader to complete the series.
