RESULTS
Campbellsville, KY – The dual between the #4 Cumberlands Patriots and #8 Campbellsville Tigers came down to the wire, but the Tigers just edged out UC, 24-22. The Patriots won more matches, taking six of the ten, however all four of the victories for CU were via falls giving them more team points.
UC started the dual off strong winning the first three matches.
Angelina Castaneda came out of the gates firing at the 101 bout. Castaneda got her first two points from a head lock to a Bulldog. She added to it with a pushout to go up 3-0. She got two more points from a slide by to be up 5-0 at the period break. To start the second period she got a single into a scramble and ended up on top. While on top, she used the high gutwrench for a two-point exposure. This put Castaneda up 11-0 for the tech fall win giving UC the 4-0 advantage.
The 109-matchup had
Elizabeth Dosado in a tight battle. The two wrestlers went back-and-forth with Dosado's opponent scoring the first two points. Then Dosado got a high-c crackdown then locked the elbow for the two-point exposure to tie it up at 2-2. Dosado was down 4-2 but then got a head and arm throw for four points. Dosado got a pair of push outs and then sealed the win with a sprawl that went behind for a two-point takedown. Dosado won via a 10-5 decision to make the team score 7-1.
Alexis Medina continued the winning trend for UC at the 116-match. Medina scored first off a low outside single for her first takedown. With the score tied, she then hit a single and cut across to a double to finish the two-point takedown to be up 4-2. Medina extended her lead in the first period with another two-point takedown. She then finished off the match from a sprawl and went behind for a two-point takedown. The match finished at an 8-4 decision extending UC's lead to 10-2.
Next, Campberllsville won three straight matches via fall to take the lead at 17-10 going into the final three matches.

Ariana Pereira had the tough task of wrestling 10
th ranked Kendra Thompson for the 155-bout. Thompson scored first, but Pereira countered with two points of her own. Pereira defended a head and arm throw from her for a two-point takedown. It was tied 2-2 going into the second period and Thompson once again got the first two points of the period. Then Pereira had three, four-point arm spins for 12 unanswered points nearly securing the pin on two of them. She ran out of time on the final takedown just seconds away from the pin. Pereira did win the match with a 14-4 tech fall. The win made the score 18-14 with a pair of matches to go.

Chamira Cooper competing against fourth ranked Liliana Vergera. It was 2-0 after the first period in favor of Vergera, but the second period, Cooper turned it on. Vergera started the period with two more points, but Cooper was unfazed getting a snatch single for a two-point takedown. Cooper then followed it up with a body lock to a four point takedown to go ahead 6-4. Cooper's final takedown came from a sprawl and went behind for the takedown. The match ended with a stall call against Vergera to make the score a 9-4 decision for Cooper.
The dual was decided despite one more match with a score of 24-17. The Tigers forfeited the final match to
Jesse Kirby making the dual end in a 24-22 advantage to the Tigers.
UC was originally scheduled to also face Saint Andrews on the night, but they did not have enough wrestlers resulting in a forfeit victory for the Patriots. Cumberlands is now 11-10 in duals this season with a 4-3 Mid-South Conference record.
The Pats have a quick turnaround, competing in just two days at the Limestone Open. The tournament will start at 10AM and mark the final regular season tournament this year.
