Patriots Make It Six Straight As They Take Down Milligan

Williamsburg, KY- 12th ranked Cumberlands got their bats going late to take down Milligan 6-4.  UC advances to 23-4 on the year, while moving their winning streak to six.

Max Harper led the way for the Pats as he went 1-3 and notched the game's only homerun.  Charlie Muniz also had a productive game as he went 2-3 at the plate, while Caden Petrey went 1-3 and added a double.

On the mound. Bryan Juarez got the start and pitched 4.2 innings scattering four hits for two runs, with a walk and two strikeouts. Jared Shelton came in relief and picked up the win as he pitched 2.0 innings, only allowing one hit, no runs, with a strikeout. Cesar Avila closed the game out as he pitched 1.1 innings, not allowing a hit, run, or walk while striking out two.

The Buffaloes took an early 2-0 lead, scoring one run in each of the third and fifth innings. The Patriots responded with a five-run sixth inning to take the lead. Ben Snapp led off the inning by getting walked.  Petrey followed with his double to right center.  Petrey would score on an RBI single from Raphy Almanzar through the right side. Next, both Muniz and Evan St Claire singled through the left side to fill the bases. Then Harper notched an RBI from a walk to tie the game at 2-2. After a change of pitchers, all the base runners advanced on a wild pitch which scored a run to take the lead.  Sujel Arias got an RBI on a groundout for the 4-2 lead. Then this week, NAIA and NAIA Ball Player of the Week Ryan Shavers singled to left field for an RBI and the 5-2 lead.   

After giving up two more runs in the top of the eighth, Harper led off the Patriots at-bat with a solo home run down the right field down to make it a 6-4 game. UC would get the last three outs to win the game. UC will take the field next against Georgetown for this weekend's series starting Friday, March 24, at 3 pm.
