Williamsburg, KY – University of the Cumberlands women's wrestling coach Donnie Stephens has step down Wednesday morning after being at the helm for over a decade. Stephens has helped elevate the Patriots women's wrestling program on a national level, while helping grow the sport throughout the Bluegrass State.
In his time at UC, Stephens has coached three NAIA National Champions, including
Dymond Guilford, who captured the 170 lbs. title in each of the past two seasons. In addition, he has coached 16 NAIA All-Americans and 24 WCWA All-Americans, including one national champion.
Stephens has also coached the three winningest wrestlers in program history Sarah Allen, Bridgette Duty, and Jessie Kirby, who have all surpassed 100 win milestone. Over is time at UC, he has compiled a 92-67-1 record in dual matches and also help lead the Patriots to their first Mid-South Conference regular season championship after UC went 4-0 in conference matches during the 2018-19 season.
Cumberlands is coming off a fifth-place finish at the NAIA National Championships in March, where they had five wrestlers earn NAIA All-American honors.
Sarah Allen has been named the interim head coach and a national search for the Patriots next head coach is underway.
