Morehead, KY- The seventh-ranked Patriots dropped a close one against NCAA Division I opponent Morehead State, 8-7. Max Harper, Charlie Muniz, and Ben Snapp all tallied a homerun as UC drops to 42-7.

Muniz led the way going 3-5 with a homer and an RBI. Snapp's lone hit was a two-run homer. Harper went 2-6 with a homer and a double for two RBIs. The Patriots pitched six arms and were led by Willis McCarter. McCarter pitched 2.1 innings allowing two hits and two runs with one walk and five strikeouts. Dustin Sprong and Zach Carlsen came away with two strikeouts each.

The Patriots got on the board first in their first at-bat. With one out, Muniz singled to right field. Sujel Arias reached on a fielder's choice, and Harper followed with a home run to center field for the 2-0 lead.

Morehead scored one in the first and took the lead in the second after scoring two. The Pats evened the score at 3-3 behind a lead off first pitch bomb from Muniz.

Later in the fifth, UC regained the lead after scoring two runs. Harper led off the inning with a double to left field. Two batters later, Snapp homered to center field for the 5-3 lead.

Cumberlands added two more runs in the sixth to make it 7-3. Caden Petrey reached on an error to start the inning, then Raphy Almanzar and Muniz got walked to load the bases. Then Arias notched an RBI single toward third base for the 6-3 lead. Three batters later, with the bases still loaded, Snapp got an RBI from a walk for the 7-3 lead.

Morehead made a late rally, scoring two in the seventh and three in the eighth to regain the lead. They would hold the Pats scoreless in the ninth to win the game 8-7.

The Pats will have a day off before heading to Bowling Green, KY, to take on Pikeville in the MSC Tournament. That game is scheduled for Thursday at noon central time.
