Lima, PERU – Over the past three days, incoming Patriots Women's Wrestler Shammilka Miranda-Diaz represented Team Puerto Rico at the U20 Pan-American Championships. Miranda-Diaz recorded two falls and collected a bronze medal in the 53kg weight class.
Incoming wrestler Miranda-Diaz was seen collecting a bronze medal after marking two falls in the quarterfinals and bronze match. In the quarterfinals, Miranda-Diaz faced Cindell Hilary Casusol Casas (Team Peru) where she held an 8-0 advantage before marking a fall in 4:25. Advancing on, Miranda-Diaz faced Daniela Moreno Capera (Team Columbia) in the bronze match. She was in close competition, sitting in a 4-4 draw before she marked a fall in 4:19 to collect her bronze medal.
Head Coach Sarah Allen comments, "Coach Jesse and I have seen that Shammi had a lot of success with all of her accomplishments at Indian Hills Community College, being a two-time National finalist and now a U20 Pan-American bronze medalist. We know that she has a lot more to accomplish and we are excited to have her joining the team this fall!"
