Kansas City, Mo. – The University of the Cumberlands women's wrestling team made the largest jump of the week in the latest NAIA Women's Wrestling Coaches' Poll, climbing four spots from #10 to #6 with 130 points, as announced by the National Office.
The Patriots moved up the rankings following a ninth-place finish at the NWCA National Duals, where UC competed against a strong national field. The four-spot jump represents the biggest move in this week's poll and keeps Cumberlands firmly positioned among the NAIA's top programs.
Cumberlands is one of several Mid-South Conference teams featured in the top 20, joining #1 Life University and #5 Lindsey Wilson College, while Campbellsville University also climbed into the rankings at #17.
Leading the way individually for UC, Saiheron Preciado-Meza sits at #4 in the 180-bout, continuing her strong season against top national competition.
At 103, Angelina Casteneda checks in at #5, while Shammilka Miranda earned her way into the rankings at #6 in the 117-bout, marking her first appearance in the NAIA individual rankings this season after previously being unranked.
In the middle weights, Mary Jane Porter comes in at #11 at 131, followed by Ruth Jimenez, who is ranked #13 at 138. At 145, UC boasts two ranked wrestlers, with Genesis Gilmore sitting at #12 and Alivia Ming close behind at #13.
At 160, the Patriots are again well represented, as Micah Miller is ranked #7, while Sierra Mefford rounds out the weight class at #20.
Heavyweight action sees Naomi Duenas ranked #7 at 207, with Chamira Cooper also earning a spot in the rankings at #14 in the same weight class.
Cumberlands will return to the mat on Saturday, January 17, when the Patriots host #1 Life University for Senior Day inside the O. Wayne Rollins Center, setting the stage for a marquee national matchup.
