Williamsburg, KY – The UC men's swimming had their final tune-up ahead of the Mid-South Conference Championships as they defeated Indiana Wesleyan 173-69 Saturday afternoon. The Pats recorded 12 wins and achieved 10 provisional cuts on the day.
Prior to the start of the meet, Cumberlands honored their two seniors
Creed Farthing and
Agustin Rasche. UC opened the afternoon with
Zsombor Bene, Mateus Cruz,
Ruthiik Satti, and
Leon Irmer teaming up to win the 200 medley relay with a winning time of 1:35.25.
The Patriots had eight different swimmers record wins on the day as
Marcelo Rojas and Mateus Lopez Cruz each tallied a pair of wins. Rojas took first place in both breaststroke events clipping the NAIA provisional cut in the 100 breast (58.87), while he went 2:12.92 to win the 200 breast.
Cruz showcased his versatility with a pair of wins. The sophomore went 1:56.43 to win the 200 IM by almost three seconds. Cruz's second win came in the 200 free where he edged out
Agustin Rasche by 0.06 second (1:47.00 to 1:47.06) for the victory with both times clipping the provisional cut.
Ruthiik Satti touched the wall in 50.96 to win the 100 back and also clipped the provisional cut in the 100 free as he clocked a 47.64.
Will Gilbert went 48.53 in the 100 free to hit the standard as well.
UC took first in both distance free events as
Juan Ramirez Zapata clocked a 4:52.90 to win the 500 free, while
Jeremiah Koenig's time of 10:18.79 earned him first in the 1000 free.
Bene followed up the relay win with an individual win the 200 fly as he clocked a 1:55.70. He notched his second standard of the day finishing the 200 IM with a time of 1:59.19.
Agustin Rache and
Josh Riegler recorded the final two individual wins for the Patriots. Rache went 52.93 to win the 100 fly, while Riegler was the top finisher in the 200 back with a time of 2:00.45.
Ramirez Zapata, Rasche, Eli Henry, and
Creed Farthing teamed up to win the 400 free relay with a time of 3:17.50.
Cumberlands now sets their sights on the MSC Championships, which is set for February 6-8 in Danville, KY.
