Danville, KY – The Patriots men's swimming team achieved 17 NAIA cuts, a meet record, and two school record to earn 795 points to lead the Speedo Centre Invite after day one of competition Friday night. UC won both relays and swept the podium in two of the three individual events on the day.
Cumberlands improved on their NAIA leading 400 medley relay as they dropped a second and half off their previous season-best to clock a 3:16.99.
Brandon Holder led off the relay before
Leon Irmer,
Alexander Poulsen, and
Arvid Farro closed it out for the win.
The Patriots opened finals with a bang as Farro,
Adam Geddis, Holder, and Poulsen broke both the meet and school record as they touched the wall in 1:20.06 to win the 200 free relay. That is now the fastest time in the NAIA by almost two seconds.
UC notched the top four finishers in the 50 free.
Alexander Poulsen clocked a 19.69 in the prelims to break that school record and hold the fastest time in the NAIA this season. The freshman followed that up with a 19.83 in the finals for the win.
Arvid Farro edged out
Adam Geddis 20.38 to 20.39 for second place. Those are the fourth and fifth fastest times in program history, while
Brandon Holder went 20.77 to place fourth.
Leon Irmer rounded out the Pats competitors with a 21.51 to finish 16
th.
Cumberlands also swept the podium in the 200 IM.
Fabrizio Pacioni clocked a 1:49.09 to earn the win with the second fastest time in program history and the top-time in the NAIA.
Ruthiik Satti notched a runner-up finish clocking a 1:50.78, which ranks fifth in the NAIA. After qualifying eighth, Juan Pablo Ramirez Zapata dropped three seconds from his prelim time to finish third with a 1:52.61.
Zsombor Bene went 1:55.52 to finish eighth, while
Josh Riegler went 1:58.28 to place 12
th.
In the 500 free, UC had five of the ten swimmers in the A final.
Jeremiah Koenig was UC's top finisher after notching a 4:39.28 to place fifth.
Sergio Saldamando Martinez (4:41.89),
Arda Mutlu (4:44.51),
Will Gilbert (4:44.72), and
Luke Rich (4:45.92) finished seventh through tenth, respectively.
The Patriots will return to the water Saturday, November 21
st, when they take part in day two of the Speedo Centre Invite. Prelims are set for 10 a.m. with finals beginning at 6 p.m.
