Three Patriots Earn Top-Eight Finishes at Missouri Valley Open

Marshall, MO - The No. 8 Women's Wrestling team travelled to Marshall, Missouri to compete in the Missouri Valley Open. The Patriots saw four individual wrestlers finish in the top eight. 

Claiming top eight finishes in their respective weight classes for UC was Micah Miller (3rd), Naomi Duenas (7th), and Saiheron Preciado-Meza (8th).  

In the 180-weight class, #4 Preciado-Meza collected an eighth-place finish after posting a 4-3 record. She opened the competition against Stephen Thomas (Avila) and made quick work by marking the fall in 0:37. She continued the momentum against Kodi Taylor (York) by marking her second fall in 0:38. In her third match, Preciado Meza faced Lia Gutlerrez (Tarleton), marking her third fall in 2:14. Against Mahalia Adams (IOCC), Preciao-Meza just missed the mark in a 4-4 decision, sending her to the consolation bracket. She made a recovery, marking the fall in 5:29 against Makayla Rivera (Lindenwood). Preciado-Meza fell in her next two matches, in a 8-00 decision against Vianne Rouleau (Alberta) and a 12-0 tech fall against Ashley Lekas (Texas Wesleyan). The results marked an eighth-place finish for Saiheron in one of the most highly regarded competitions in the country.  

In the 207-weight class, #5 Naomi Duenas mastered a seventh-place finish after posting a 4-2 record. She opened the competition with a 12-0 tech fall against Loghan Sumner (Missouri Baptist), marking two two-point takedowns and two four-point takedowns. She then made quick work of Hailey Conley (Fort Hays), marking the fall in 1:10. Duenas faced her first loss against Jaycee Foeller (Iowa), falling short in a 14-9 decision after posting two four-point takedowns that were just shy of enough against a tough competitor. Duenas bounced back in the consolation bracket, winning a 12-8 decision against Jayleen Sekona (Colorado Mesa) with six two-point takedowns. Duenas fell short again in a 10-0 tech fall against Hayley Ward (Avila), before finishing her last match with a 6-2 decision over Loghan Sumner (Missouri Baptist), clinching her seventh-place finish.  

In the 160-weight class, #9 Micah Miller notched a third-place podium finish with a 8-1 record. She opened her competition winning two decisions, 6-1 against Maegan Flaherty (Texas Woman's) and 7-4 against Belen Lopez (Simon Fraser). In her third match, Miller went down to Leolyn Karnowski (Unattached) in a 2:33 fall for her only loss of the competition. Miller bounced back by clinching a 5-4 decision over Makayla Munoz (Oklahoma City), then taking a win by forfeit in her fifth match. Miller steamed forward, winning a tight 4-2 decision over Vida Beckel (Emmanuel). In her seventh match, Miller marked the fall against Anyla Roberts in just 0:46. Miller then wins a 6-2 decision against Leolyn Karnowski, powering through to her last match of the competition. Miller faced off against Kiley Dillow (Unattached), defeating her in a 11-0 tech fall to claim her third place title.  

Cumberlands will return to action on December 5th-6th to host the Patriot Duals in Williamsburg, Kentucky.
