Men Win MSC Indoor Championship in Dominant Fashion

The Patriots brought home their second-straight Mid-South Conference Indoor Title in dominant fashion scoring 308 points, the most in program history. UC won six events on the day and earned multiple top awards. Head Coach Bradley Sowder was named MSC Coach of the Year for the second year in a row while Derek White earned MSC Assistant Coach of the Year honors. Nigel Steenwinkel was awarded MSC Athlete of the Year after scoring 23 points.

He began with a first-place finish in the pole vault, clearing a height of 4.10. Seth Massie followed with a 4.10m mark for second while Jelle Holbach and Alvaro Legaz rounded out the top-four with marks of 3.40 and 3.20m respectively. Steenwinkel then won the 60m hurdles as well with an 8.32 finish. Brandon Green was just behind his teammate, running an 8.47 for second overall. Nigel rounded out his day with a sixth-place finish in the long jump, leaping 6.43m. Sincere Irvin also scored in the long jump, placing eighth behind a 6.31m jump.

UC's sprinters had a great showing on Thursday. Jaysaun Smith clocked a 47.45 in the 400m for first place, breaking his own school record. This time hit an A standard and is the sixth fastest in the NAIA this year. Kerrington Eubanks ran a 48.56 for second place and a B cut while Roderick Soto rounded out the top three with a 48.72. Grayson Rahbany and Iloba Godspower also scored in the 400m with times of 49.43 and 49.53 for seventh and eighth. Eubanks, Godspower, Rahbany, and Devonte Davis also represented UC int e 4x400, placing second with a 3:17.75 finish.

Cole Bennett led the way in the 3K racewalk, finishing with a time of 12:17.03 for the fastest in the NAIA and a new facility record. Dillan Melchiore added eight more team points with a 12:29.86 finish for second while Lucien Beardsley clocked a 13:34.93 for third.

UC's 4x800 squad hit an A standard with the ninth fastest time in the NAIA on Thursday. Max Young and Andrew Yeary ran the opening legs before Ryan Ehrler and Victor Carpeggiani handled the final two. The team combined for a 7:45.01 finish.

The weight throw also saw a Patriot winner as Lucas Lambo stood atop the podium after finals. He finished with a mark of 15.75m. Jack Lamey Jr. placed third with a 14.17m throw while Bailey Muncy and Austin Meacham hit marks of 13.70m and 13.62m for sixth and seventh. Lambo also finished second in the shot put with a new school record performance of 15.57m. Dratavyn Barber placed fifth with a 12.98m while Muncy finished seventh behind a 12.13m throw.

The DMR squad ran a national standard in Louisville with a 10:03.45 A cut finish, placing second. Luca Madeo ran the opening led before passing the baton to Eddie Van Wyk. Hauke Trost took over for the third leg before Loser handled the final leg and secured the A standard performance.

Cumberlands earned six of the eight spots in the 60m dash finals. Travion Dotson had the fastest finish for UC with a 6.74 A cut time for second. Godspower followed just behind Dotson with a 6.76 for another A cut while Donte Sol and Jaysaun Smith ran times of 6.88 and 6.92 for sixth and seventh. Aarontae Wesley rounded out the Patriots in the finals with a 6.98.

Three more Pats scored in the 200m dash. Cam Andrews ran a B cut time of 21.47 for second place while Dotson earned his second All-Conference medal of the day with a 21.54 finish. Eddie Van Wyk ran a 21.91 for fifth as well.

Noah McClellan earned a pair of runner-up finishes in the 3K and 5K. He ran a 14:48.17 in the 5K, just one second off the national standard. Serhii Shevchenko clocked a 15:10.50 for third while Cuauhtemoc Fitiao ran a 15:22.22 for fourth. Luca Madeo and Noah Loser rounded out UC's finisher with easy fifth and sixth place finishes. In the 3K, McClellan ran an 8:36.39 while Fitiao ran an 8:52.17 for fourth. Ryan Ehrler also scored for UC, placing sixth behind a 9:04.29 finish.

Maddox Knight had an impressive meet finishing third in the 800m and 1000m. He ran a 1:58.58 in the 800m and a 2:31.65 1K finish. Reed Richardson and Christopher Morse ran times of 1:59.82 and 1:59.93 for fourth and fifth in the 800m while Jackson Lowe ran a 2:04.17 for seventh. Lowe and Richardson finished third and fourth in the 600m, followed by Morse, Melchiore, and Clay Hogue in sixth, seventh, and eighth. The 1K saw Caleb Rigney run a 2:47.32 for fifth, Carpeggiani run a 2:48.99 for sixth, and Young clock a 2:49.33 for eighth. Rigney earned an All-Conference award in the mile behind a 4:21.25 finish while Bartosz Trojinar ran a 4:32.33 for seventh.

The high jump featured a lone Patriot competitor in Colby Bales. The junior cleared a height of 1.85m for fifth overall, scoring four points for UC.

Cumberlands' 308 team points is the most points scored at the conference tournament in program history. Lindsey Wilson finished second with 154 points followed by Campbellsville with 134 points in third.

The Pats will be back in action this weekend as they travel to Vanderbilt for the Music City Challenge.
