Bowling Green, Ky – The Cumberland's Women's Bowling team put together a strong first day of the MSC Championships, seeing action in the individual singles and doubles portion and winning their first round matchup against fifth-seeded Tennessee Wesleyan.
The MSC tournament follows a double elimination format with each team needing to win best-of-seven baker style games in each round to advance.
Cumberlands entered the tournament as the four seed with a matchup against Tennessee Wesleyan. UC dropped the first match 155-152 but bounced back by winning the next three to take a 3-1 lead. The Patriots took the second match 201-150, before knocking down 171 and 189 pins in the next two games. The Bulldogs took game five 189-167. In game six, the Pats responded with a 204-160 win to secure the win, 4-2.
In the singles portion of the tournament, Kailee Blain led the way for UC and placed 16th overall. The MSC Bowler of the Week knocked down 550 pins through three games for a 183.33-pin average. Her best score came in game two with 211 pins.
Allison Finn was the next highest finisher in singles for UC, placing 20th overall with a total pinfall of 532 through three games. The freshman saw her best score come in game three with 182 pins.
Katie Palmer finished 29th with a total pinfall of 484.
The Pats will be back in action for day two of the MSC Championships on Friday where they will take on #1 Cumberland University.
