Gainesville, FL – UC earned three All-American finishes on the second day of the NAIA Indoor Championships, scoring 10 points towards the team standings. Day two also saw seven Patriots earn a spot in the finals of their respective events.
The day started in the racewalk where Cole Bennett finished in 12:44.81 for fourth overall. Lucien Beardsley also scored for the Pats in this event with a 13:18.99 3K RW time for sixth. This gave UC eight points towards their team total.
UC's third All-American came in the heptathlon from Nigel Steenwinkel. He completed the final three events with third place in the hurdles, fifth in the pole vault, and seventh in the 1K to finish the meet with 5097 points for a season best. Seth Massie also completed the heptathlon on Friday, scoring 4646 for 16th overall.
Youssef Asslouj led the charge in the 3K with an 8:22.24 time to earn an automatic spot in the finals. Noah McClellan clocked an 8:24.90 while Noah Loser ran an 8:26.09 to both earn a spot alongside Asslouj for a chance at All-American honors tomorrow in the finals as well.
The 1K featured Hauke Trost who won his heat with a 2:28.10 time to automatically qualify for the final race. Trost entered the meet as the number one seed in the 1000m.
On the sprints side, three Patriots stepped up to the occasion and earned a spot in the finals. Jaysaun Smith clocked a 47.37 in the 400m to automatically qualify for the finals and break his own program record. The 60m dash saw Travion Dotson cross the finish line in 6.73 finish to move on to the finals and break his own program record as well, while Cam Andrews went 21.21 in the 200m for a top-eight finish to advance to tomorrows finals.
Dotson also ran the 200m, finishing in 21.62 while Iloba Godspower and Donte Sol ran 60m times of 6.77 and 6.81 in the prelims today as well. Victor Carpeggiani rounded out the Pats in action today, running a 1:53.50 in the 800m for 13th.
Cumberlands currently sit in ninth place with 10 points as a team. Marian and Midland are currently tied for first with 27 points while Doane's 18 points are good for third overall.
The Patriots look to finish strong and jump up the team standings on the final day of competition tomorrow. They will compete in the finals of eight events where they look to add on to their team score.
