Kansas City, MO – Two members of the UC Women's Tennis team have garnered NAIA All-American honors, the national office announced Friday. Karen Kondo and Marina Nagai were named to the All-America teams for their efforts this season.
Kondo picked up First Team All-American honors for the third time of her career and first as a Patriot. The Union and St. Mary's transfer was remarkable in her one season with the Patriots, primarily playing at the #1 singles and #2 doubles spots. Kondo posted a 15-5 singles record, including a 6-1 mark in MSC play. In doubles, the senior partnered with Victoria Zarate and went 13-2 at #1 and #2 doubles. Kondo was a First Team All-Conference selection and named the MSC Player of the Week back on February 10th.
Nagai earned her second consecutive NAIA All-American honor as she was named to the Second Team list. The junior also captured conference honors for the third straight year, earning a spot on the First Team All-Conference list. In conference play, Nagai posted a perfect 5-0 record at #2 singles and was 2-2 in doubles action, partnering with Rion Yanuma. The Kanagawa, Japan native was a consistent piece for the Pats that played anywhere from the #1-#3 spots.
The UC Women's Tennis team concluded their season with an overall record of 18-6 and a 5-1 mark in conference play. The Patriots recorded a runner-up finish in the MSC Tournament and stayed inside of the NAIA Coaches' Poll the entire season, ending the 2024-25 campaign ranked 18th.
