KANSAS CITY, MO –
Tavon Davis has been named NAIA Men's Indoor Track Athlete of the Week following a record-setting performance at the UAB Green and Gold Invite, national officials announced Wednesday afternoon. Davis becomes the first Patriot in over a decade to earn NAIA Men's Track Athlete of the Week honors.
Competing against a strong field in Birmingham, Davis delivered one of the top performances in the country this season. He opened the meet by capturing the 400-meter title in 47.26, a time that met the NAIA A standard and currently ranks second in the nation.
He returned later in the meet to dominate the 600 meters, crossing the line in 1:18.16 to record the fastest time in the NAIA this year. The mark not only surpassed the NAIA A standard but also broke a program record that had stood since 2001, previously held by Anthony Kabara, one of the most accomplished athletes in school history.
Davis' nationally leading performances now earn him the highest weekly honor awarded by the NAIA, further solidifying his place among the top sprinters in the country this indoor season.
The Pats will return this weekend as they head to Vanderbilt for the Music City Invite.
