Patriots Wins 8th Straight Mid-South Conference Championship

Danville, KY – For the second straight year, the Patriots broke the MSC Swimming & Diving Championship record scoring 978 points to win their eighth consecutive conference title.  The Patriots tallied a pair of meet records on the day and garnered a pair of top honors. 

In addition to capturing the team title, Alexander Poulsen was named the MSC Swimmer of the Year after posting a trio of individual wins.  Titouan Bernot garnered MSC Freshman of the Year accolades behind a strong performance that including two conference titles. 

UC swept the podium in the 200 fly as Josh Riegler captured his first conference title clocking a time of 1:50.05.  Juan Pablo Ramirez Zapata went 1:50.12 for a runner-up finish, while Zsombor Bene was third clocking a 1:50.67. 

Cumberlands notched a one-two finish in the 200 back with Brandon Holder using a late surge to capture the win going 1:49.08.  Ruthiik Satti touched the wall in 1:49.82 for a runner-up finish. 

The Patriots followed that up with a one-two finish in the 100 free.  Alexander Poulsen notched a new meet record time of 44.22 to capture the conference title.  Titouan Bernot notched a season-best time of 44.70 to place second, while Arvid Farro was fourth (45.52).  Adaam Geddis went 46.39 to place seventh. 

UC opened finals with a pair of swimmers competing in the 1650 free.  Sergio Saldamando Martinez paced the Patriots clocking a 16:07.93 for third place.  Will Gilbert touched the wall in 16:26.33 to finish fifth, while Eli Urban went 16:39.08.

In the 200 breast the Patriots had a trio of swimmers in the final.  Fabrizio Pacioni notched his third individual podium finish as he went 2:03.49 to finish third overall.  Luke Rich clocked a 2:05.84 to place fifth, while Leon Irmer was right behind him with a time of 2:06.80.  Marcos del Vado Sanz won the consolation final with a time of 2:11.42. 

In the final event, the 400 free relay, Holder, Poulsen, Satti, and Geddis teamed up for a new meet record time of 3:00.33 to win the event.

The Patriots will now set their sights on the NAIA National Championship, which is set for March 4-7 in Elkhart, IN.
