Bowling Green, KY –Following an impressive week at the plate, graduate student catcher
Clay Shelton has been named the Mid-South Conference Player of the Week, conference officials announced Monday.
Shelton helped lead No. 6 Cumberlands to a 3-1 record against Lindsey Wilson (Ky.) and Union Commonwealth (Ky.), batting an impressive .545 (6-for-11) across the four games.
The Williamsburg, KY native turned in a standout performance against Lindsey Wilson, going 5-for-6 with three home runs and seven RBIs across two wins. He continued his strong play throughout the week, finishing with four home runs, a double, and 11 RBIs while also scoring five runs and drawing two walks.
Behind the plate, Shelton was equally impressive, posting a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage with 29 putouts. His all-around performance earns him his first Mid-South Conference weekly honor of the season and of his career.
Shelton and the rest of the Patriots will be back in action tomorrow to take on (RV) Milligan at Doyle Buhl Stadium. First pitch is set for 2 p.m. ET.
