Williamsburg, KY – On the heels of an incredible week in Patriots athletics, catcher Grace Ross and shortstop Caden Petrey have been named the Pepsi Athletes of the Week honors, the athletic department announced Monday.
Grace Ross earned Athlete of the Week honors after a strong week. Ross hit .533 on the week with eight hits, six RBIs and nine runs scored. She opened the week going 1-3 with a run scored against #3 Madonna. Ross followed that up going 3-2 with a double and a run scored as the Pats took down the Crusaders. The grad student followed that up with two hits and a trio of runs scored over the first two games against Bethel. Ross saved her best performance for last as she went 3-4 with five RBI and three runs scored in the series finale. With the game tied 2-2, Ross blasted a two-run homer to left in the fifth to give UC the lead. She followed that up with a three-run shot an inning later as Cumberlands earned the 9-2 win to complete the sweep.
Caden Petrey earned Athlete of the Week honors after a fantastic week, highlighted by a .615 average and .688 on base percentage. Petrey opened the week going 1-2 with a pair of walks and three runs scored in UC's win over Midway. In the series opener against Freed-Hardeman, the senior went 1-4 with a run scored to help UC take the early lead. He followed it up going 3-3 with two homers and a single, before capping off the series with a homer in third inning before scoring the game tying run in the fifth inning.
