Kansas City, MO – The University of the Cumberlands softball team moved up one spot to No. 17 in the latest NAIA Coaches' Top 25 Poll, released by the national office Wednesday afternoon. The Patriots sit at 34-16 overall and 11-5 in Mid-South Conference play heading into postseason action.
Cumberlands is coming off a strong stretch to close out the regular season, which included a three-game sweep over Georgetown College (Ky.) and Bethel University (Tenn.). The Patriots also picked up a doubleheader sweep over Shawnee State University (Ohio) on before closing out the regular season on the road at Cumberland University (Tenn.).
UC also secured a signature victory over previously ranked #3 Madonna University (Mich.), who now sits atop the NAIA rankings. The Patriots split the doubleheader with Madonna, showcasing their ability to compete with one of the top teams in the country.
Offensively, Cumberlands has been led by Grace Ross, who recently set the program single-season record with 15 home runs. The Patriots continue to maintain a balanced attack, while the pitching staff, led by Jessica Cord and Emily Delgado, has consistently limited opposing offenses throughout the season.
Madonna earned the top spot in the latest poll, while Lindsey Wilson remains ranked inside the top-15.
Cumberlands will now turn its attention to the Mid-South Conference Tournament, set for April 28 – May 2, with the location still to be determined.
