Kansas City, MO – After capturing the AAC regular season and tournament titles, the Patriots women's lacrosse team is ranked in the final NAIA Coaches' Poll ahead of the national tournament, released by the national office Wednesday. Cumberlands has compiled a 19-1 record on the season and has tallied 84 points.
On the year, UC has outscored their opponents 389-93 on the season and leads the NAIA in goals (389), assists (235), ground balls (481), draw controls (323), and caused turnovers (275). Cumberlands is riding a 11-game win streak that includes eight wins over teams that are ranked or receiving votes.
The Patriots success has come a balanced attack along with strong defense. The Patriots have six players that have tallied at least 50 points so far this season. AAC Player of the Year
Ashlee Baker leads the way with a NAIA-best 66 assists and 128 points.
Anna Lobbezoo is fourth in the NAIA with 89 points, while
Emma Rittman has notched 60 goals, 84 points, 103 draw controls, and 63 ground balls. The Patriots have also had a quartet of freshman,
Allison Joines, Kaityln Friel,
Lenora DeVries and
Christina Carter that have combined for 155 goals and 211 points on the year.
Mikayla Kimsey has posted a NAIA-best 5.05 GAA, and holds the top save percentage in the NAIA at 58.0%. The sophomore has made 120 saves while posting a 19-1 record. UC has ten players with double-digit caused turnovers on the season, led by
Koral Hadac with a NAIA-best 46 caused turnovers to go along with 57 ground balls. DeVries has totaled 36 ct's and 56 gb's, while Carter has notched 27 ct's, 55 draw controls, and 41 ground balls.
Benedictine, the defending NAIA champion, sits atop the poll with 90 points, while SCAD is ranked third with 78 points. Reinhardt and Keiser round out the top-five, while AAC rivals Tennessee Wesleyan and Georgetown are receiving votes.
Cumberlands now sets their sights on the NAIA National Tournament, which is set to begin on Monday, May 11th. The NAIA selection show is set for May 4th at 5 p.m. (ET).
