Williamsburg, KY – University of the Cumberlands Baseball standout,
Derick Andiarena, has officially signed a professional contract with the Schaumburg Boomers of the Frontier League, earning the opportunity to continue his baseball career at the professional level following two outstanding seasons with the Patriots.
The Schaumburg Boomers are based in Schaumburg, Illinois, and compete in the Frontier League, the largest independent professional baseball league in North America. As an MLB Partner League, the Frontier League serves as a pathway for players looking to advance their professional careers.
Andiarena, a native of Puerto Rico, quickly established himself as one of the premier offensive players in the NAIA during his time at Cumberlands. In his first season with the Patriots in 2025, he appeared in 54 games and posted a .371 batting average while recording 75 hits, 66 runs scored, 17 doubles, 13 home runs, and 63 RBIs. He also stole 11 bases and finished the season with a 1.115 OPS.
His impressive junior campaign earned Mid-South Conference Second Team All-Conference honors, MSC Academic All-Conference recognition, and multiple Mid-South Conference/NAIA Player of the Week awards.
Andiarena elevated his game to another level during the 2026 season, becoming one of the nation's most feared hitters. He earned NAIA First Team All-American honors and was named the Mid-South Conference Player of the Year after batting .402 with 97 hits, 20 doubles, 19 home runs, and 89 RBIs while helping lead the Patriots to a 48-10 record. He also scored 79 runs and posted a .739 slugging percentage and .482 on-base percentage while ranking among the national leaders in several offensive categories.
Over his two-year career at Cumberlands, Andiarena appeared in 112 games and compiled 172 hits, 145 runs scored, 37 doubles, 32 home runs, and 152 RBIs. His impact at the plate and leadership on the field played a major role in the continued success of the Patriots program.
With Andiarena's signing, two members of the 2026 Patriots squad have now earned professional opportunities, joining Mid-South Conference Pitcher of the Year Wesley Culley, who signed with the New York Boulders earlier this summer. Their signings further highlight the success and development of the Cumberlands Baseball program on the national stage.
