Four Patriots Garner NAIA All-American Honors

Kansas City, MO – Following another impressive season on the diamond, four members of the University of the Cumberlands baseball team have garnered NAIA All-American honors, as released by the national office on Thursday. Derick Andiarena and Caden Petrey were named NAIA First Team All-Americans, Ronald Almanzar earned Second Team All-American recognition, while Pedro Vasquez was selected to the Third Team.

Andiarena collected First Team All-American honors for the first time in his career following a dominant senior campaign. The Añasco, Puerto Rico native was named the Mid-South Conference Player of the Year and earned MSC Player of the Week honors twice during the season. Andiarena started all 58 games for the Patriots and led the team with a .402 batting average, 97 hits, 89 RBI, and 79 runs scored. He added 20 doubles, two triples, and 19 home runs while posting a .739 slugging percentage and a .482 on-base percentage. The senior finished third in the NAIA in RBI and ranked among the conference leaders in batting average, hits, and runs batted in. Defensively, Andiarena recorded a .979 fielding percentage in the outfield.

Petrey secured First Team All-American honors for the first time in his career after putting together one of the best offensive seasons in the Mid-South Conference. The infielder was named MSC First Team All-Conference and earned MSC Gold Glove honors after excelling on both sides of the ball. Petrey started all 58 games and batted .349 with 75 hits, 19 home runs, 72 RBI, and 70 runs scored. Petrey also tallied 15 doubles and three triples while compiling a .712 slugging percentage. The senior ranked among the team leaders in home runs, RBI, and extra-base hits while helping power one of the most explosive offenses in the NAIA. Defensively, he registered 115 assists and a .970 fielding percentage.

Almanzar garnered Second Team All-American honors, also the first All-American recognition of his career. The first baseman was named MSC First Team All-Conference after serving as a force in the middle of the Patriot lineup. Almanzar batted .381 with 83 hits, 25 home runs, 81 RBI, and 75 runs scored. His 25 home runs led the team while his .817 slugging percentage was also tops among Patriot regulars. Almanzar added 16 doubles and two triples while posting a .469 on-base percentage. On the defensive side, he recorded 367 putouts and a .974 fielding percentage at first base.

Vasquez rounded out the Patriot honorees by earning Third Team All-American accolades, marking the first All-American honor of his career. The senior outfielder was a key contributor to the Cumberlands offense, earning MSC First Team All-Conference recognition after batting .355 with 66 hits, 17 home runs, 52 RBI, and 69 runs scored in 53 starts. The native of Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic added 12 doubles and one triple while posting a .704 slugging percentage and a .458 on-base percentage. Vasquez also swiped 17 bases and ranked among the team leaders in runs scored, helping power one of the most productive lineups in the NAIA. Defensively, he posted a .976 fielding percentage in the outfield.

The quartet helped lead one of the nation's top offenses as Cumberlands hit .345 as a team with 120 home runs, 580 RBI, and 636 runs scored on the season. The Patriots concluded another outstanding campaign with a 48-10 overall record and a 16-2 mark in Mid-South Conference play.
