Bowling Green, KY – Following a thrilling 2-1 victory over the eighth-ranked Truett McConnell Bears, Patriots center back Samantha Sokolove was named the Mid-South Conference Defensive Player of the Week, conference officials announced Monday. 

Sokolove played a key role in the Patriots' defensive effort, helping Cumberlands secure the top-ten victory. In the 59' minute, Sokolove recorded a team save that helped preserve the Patriots' lead and kept the Bears off the scoreboard. The Patriots' defensive unit also held the Bears to just one corner kick and four shots on frame throughout the match. The victory marked Cumberlands' first win over a ranked opponent this season as UC improved to 2-0 overall. 

The Patriots will return to the pitch on Tuesday, September 1st, when they travel to Indianapolis, IN to face #5 Marian University.  The match is set for 7 p.m.
