Williamsburg, KY – After helping their teams to strong performances on the week, goalie Morgan White and runner Collin De Julio have been named the Appalachian Wireless Athletes of the Week, the athletic department announced Monday.
Morgan White earned Athlete of the Week honors after leading the Patriots to a pair of draws against top-five opponents. The sophomore made eight saves and a shutout on the week. The Louisville, KY native opened the week making five saves, including a trio at point-blank range to hold #4 Marian scoreless for her second clean sheet on the year. Her performance was pivotal as the Knights came into the match averaging 5.33 goals per match. White followed that up by making three saves as the Patriots earned a 1-1 draw against #5 Indiana Wesleyan, who had outscored their opponents 17-0 prior to that game. In addition to her saves, White made several pivotal plays to thwart promising attacks from the opponents.
Collin De Julio earned Athlete of the Week honors after an impressive debut for the Patriots. At the Wildcat Twilight Invitational, the Folsom, CA native paced the way to earn the win over the 6k course. De Julio crossed the line in 18:32.20 to earn the victory by more than a second of the next closest runner. His performance guided the Patriots to a team victory against a loaded NAIA field.
