UC Archery Opens Season with Strong Showing at 3D Regionals

Barbourville, KY – The UC archery team notched six medal, includes a pair of golds, at the USIIAC 3D Regional Championship Saturday.  The Patriots had 11 shooters qualify for the shoot down in the respective events.

"It was a great start to our season," said Head Coach Kris Strebeck. "We had a bunch of shooter step up and shoot well today, which puts us in good position heading into the conference championships."

Leading the way for UC was newcomer Jase Boils, who took gold in the men's compound division.  Boils led the entire way and finished the day winning by 12 points.  Teammate Josh Isenhoff recorded 440 points to capture the bronze, while Clint Moore finished sixth shooting 428.

In the men's bowhunter event, Caleb Dixon posted UC's other gold medal after shooting 428.  Dixon earned gold by four points over Taylor Bell of Lindsey Wilson.  Aaron Adams also advanced to the shoot down where he finished fourth with a score of 413.

Cumberlands had a pair of medalist in the women's compound division led by freshman Brooke Miller, who shot a 413 to finished second, one point behind first.  Right behind Miller was Sara Sherman who earned a bronze medal after recording a 410.  Samanthas Rayburn and Tara Currie finished fifth and seventh, respectfully, after shooting 405 and 400.

Gertrude Heavner earn UC's final medal after taking silver in the women's bowhunter division.  Heavner finished the day shooting a 390.  Finishing just off the podium were McKenzie Gaines and Courtnie Carr, who shot 385 and 381, respectfully. 

In the men's basic bow competition, Noah Fields shot a 279 to finish in fourth place just off the podium.

The Patriots have earned the top seed in five of the team round brackets for the MSC Championships.

Cumberlands will return to action Sunday, October 7, when they host the Mid-South Conference 3D Championships at the UC All Purpose Field.  The event is scheduled to begin at 12 p.m., with live coverage of the individual shoot down, beginning at 2 p.m., will be available here.
