Dublin, OH – UC Archery returned to the range today at Darree Fields Park as day two of the 2019 US National Outdoor Collegiate Championships were underway. Cumberlands carried 15 points from day one into today's team rounds where they had the possibility of picking up a total of 40 points to add to their total score. The Patriots had a very solid day of shooting picking up one gold medal, two silver medals, and a bronze medal to earn 32 points. UC holds a total of 47 points entering the final day of competition.
The trio of
Clint Moore,
Jase Boils, and Joshua Isenhoff qualified second in the Men's Compound division, earning a first-round bye. Beginning action in the quarterfinals, the Patriots handled Hocking College 224-210 to advance. Going against Texas A&M University in the semifinals, the Patriots trailed by three after two ends. A perfect 60 in end three coupled with a two-point advantage in the final end gave UC the win over the Aggies 230-229 to punch their ticket to the championship match. There, Cumberlands would knock off the Bulldogs of Union College 221-215 to earn the Patriots' lone gold medal on the day.
The Women's Compound division would be represented by
Tara Currie,
Samantha Rayburn, and
Brooke Miller as they also qualified second in the team rounds, earning the first-round bye. UC would go against the Bears of the University of Pikeville in the quarterfinals. There, a big fourth end would be the deciding factor as the Patriots would take down the Bears 207-201 to move to the semifinals against Lindsey Wilson. There, UC would hold the advantage over the Blue Raiders in every end, earning a 217-212 win to earn their trip to the finals. In the championship, Union would prevail over the Patriots as UC would bring home the silver medal.
The Women's Bowhunter team for UC would also qualify second with the trio of Helen McDonald,
McKenzie Gaines, and
Courtnie Carr would earn the first-round bye. The quarterfinal matchup against the Blue Raiders of Lindsey Wilson seemed to be a tune-up as Cumberlands would win 206-168 to move on to the semifinals against James Madison University. The Patriots jumped out early to a solid lead to hold on for a 206-196 win to advance to the championship. There, a battle between Cumberlands and Union would come down to final arrows once again, but this time it was the Bulldogs prevailing defeating UC 214-212 as the Patriots would earn their second silver medal of the day.
Finally, in the Men's Bowhunter division, the second-seeded trio of
Jeremiah Jones,
Aaron Adams, and
Caleb Dixon took their opening-round bye into the quarterfinals against Kentucky Christian University. There, the Patriots would scratch back in the final two ends of the round to earn a 197-194 win to advance. In the semifinals, the Patriots would fall to the Bulldogs of Union 214-212 to move to the bronze medal match. Cumberlands would handle their business against the Blue Raiders 209-195 to earn the bronze.
Cumberlands will return to the range tomorrow for the final day of competition at the US National Outdoor Collegiate Championships which will crown individual champions at each division.
