Las Vegas, NV – The UC archery team capped off their indoor season with a fourth place finish at the USCA Indoor Archery National Championship Sunday. The Patriots garnered three silver medals and four bronze medals to finish the championships with ten points, six points behind the champion.
UC notched a pair of medalist in the men's compound event as
Jase Boils and
Josh Isenhoff finished second and third, respectfully. Boils started the tournament by defeating Bryce Woodroome of Union 144-141, while Isenhoff knocked off Hunter Carlton, 144-143. Two meet in the semifinals in a rematch of the gold medal match from the MSC Championships. Just like before the two shooters tied forcing a one arrow shoot-off, which was won by Boils to advance him to the gold medal match. Boils dropped the gold medal match in a one arrow shoot-off, while Isenoff defeated Lucas Roy of Union 148-144 to earn the bronze.
Courtnie Carr earned UC's other individual silver medal in the women's bowhunter division. Carr, who entered the championship as the two-seed, shot a 148 in both the quarterfinals and semifinals to advance to the gold medal match. The gold medal match was a repeat of the MSC championship as Carr shot a 146, but fell to top-seed Haley Golden of Union, who posted a 150.
McKenzie Gaines and
Michaela McDonald both qualified for nationals, however were knocked out in the quarterfinals.
Brooke Miller and
Aaron Adams each earned a bronze medal in their respective events. The fourth-seed Miller, defeated MacKenzie Tompkins of KCU 145-138 in the quarterfinals. After dropping the semifinals by one point, Miller rallied to capture the bronze with a 142-140 win over Madison Hart of Lindsey Wilson.
Adams had a similar path as he defeated Dylan Breidenbach 147-144 in the quarterfinals. Adams fell in the semifinals by one point, but knocked off Morgan Vaughn of Union in a one arrow shoot-off 10-9 to place third.
In addition to their individual success, Cumberlands tallied a silver and a bronze medal in mixed team rounds. In mixed bowhunter, Adams and Carr partnered to take the silver medal after falling to Union in the gold medal match 159-157.
Cumberlands final medal came in the mixed compound event where
Jase Boils and
Tara Currie were hindered by an equipment malfunction as they fell in the semifinals 154-141 to Mount Marty College and earn the bronze.
The Patriots will gear up for their outdoor season, which is slated to begin on Thursday, April 18, at the South Regional Intercollegiate Championships. Cumberlands will host both the regional and the third leg of the Mid-South Conference Championship on April 20 at the UC All-Purpose Field.
