Patriots Garner Seven Individual Medals, Eight All-Region Honors on Day Two of SROCAC

Williamsburg, KY – UC Archery brought home three gold medals along with two silver and two bronze medals for a grand total of 14 medals at the 2019 South Region Outdoor Collegiate Archery Championships. The Patriots also had eight archers garner All-Region team honors for their combined performances between indoor and outdoor qualifying scores.
 
Earning the first medal of the day was Miranda Lauria in the Women's Recurve division. Earning the one seed, Lauria earned the win over Elizabeth Jones from Pikeville by a score of 6-0 but would fall in the gold medal match to Lindsey Wilson's Olivia Harner by a score of 7-3 to earn the silver medal.
 
Two Patriots from the Women's Compound division would come away with podium finishes. Brooke Miller, who was the eight seed in the bracket, would get byes to the 1/8 elimination round. She would take wins over Madison Hart from LWC and Jodi Hicks from Union in the quarterfinals to move into the semifinals. Tara Currie, who was the fifth seed, also received byes into the 1/8 elimination round. She also picked up wins over Catelynn McKnight of Pikeville and teammate Samantha Rayburn to move to the semifinals. There, Miller and Currie would meet up for a chance to go to the gold medal match. Currie would come away by a score of 141-140, sending Miller to the bronze medal match. There, Miller would earn the victory over second-seeded Ashlyn Scriven of Lindsey Wilson by a score of 142-137. Currie would win gold with a 142-139 victory over third-seeded Hannah Lane of Union.
 
Josh Isenhoff would earn the top seed in the Men's Compound bracket and take full advantage of it. With byes to the 1/8 elimination round, he would run off four straight wins including a victory over teammate and fourth-seeded Jase Boils in the semifinals by a score of 144-143 to move into the gold medal match. There, he would meet up with second-seeded Hunter Carlton of Madisonville Community College. After tying 141-141 after five ends, a sixth tiebreaker end would decide the winner. Carlton would hit an eight, but Isenhoff would strike the nine-ring to come away with the gold medal.
 
Another pair of Patriots would medal in the Women's Bowhunter division as Michaela McDonald and McKenzie Gaines would find their way to the podium. Gaines, the six seed, and McDonald, the seven seed, both won three straight matches to make their way to the semifinals. There, they would meet up with one another as McDonald came away with the win by a score of 132-128. In the bronze medal match, Gaines would be successful with a victory over Sarah Purtee of Kentucky Christian by a score of 138-131. McDonald would fall in the championship match to top-seeded Haley Golden of Union by a score of 144-127 to earn the silver.
 
Finally, in the Men's Bowhunter division, second-seeded Caleb Dixon would have an impressive day to make his way to the podium. Earning a bye in the first round, Dixon would run off five straight wins including victories over sixth-seeded Morgan Vaughn of Union 138-137 and top-seeded Taylor Bell of Lindsey Wilson 145-141 to earn the gold medal.
 
At the end of the day, eight Patriots were honored with All-Region honors. A maximum of five shooters per division were honored as the rankings were decided by combination of qualifying scores from both indoor and outdoor regionals. Those Patriots named All-Region were Tara Currie, Courtnie Carr, McKenzie Gaines, Miranda Lauria, Aaron Adams, Caleb Dixon, Josh Isenhoff, and Jase Boils.
 
UC returns to the range on Saturday, April 20th when they will compete in the 2019 MSC Outdoor Championships.
