Dublin, OH – The University of the Cumberlands recorded 15 points in mixed team rounds to cap off a solid day of shooting Friday afternoon at the USA Outdoor Collegiate Championships. Archers shot 72 arrows for qualifying this morning followed by mixed team rounds.
The duo of
Brooke Miller and
Josh Isenhoff captured Cumberlands first gold medal of the championship in the compound mixed team event. The duo earned the top seed in the event and after a first-round bye defeated UC San Diego 143-140. Miller and Isenhoff defeating Hocking College 148-136 before posting a 150-142 win over Valerie Aten and Christopher Bee of Michigan State to advance to the championship match. Cumberlands posted a 149-143 win over Union's Hannah Lane and Lucas in the gold medal match.
Cumberlands also tallied the top seed in the mixed bowhunter class with
Caleb Dixon and
Courtnie Carr. The tandem defeated Stanford (132-122) and Kentucky Christian (141-133) to advance to the semifinals. In the semifinals Carr and Dixon tied Andrina Savor and Owen McCann at 141-141 forcing a shoot-off. Both teams recorded ten, however the Patriots fell to bronze medal match on closest to the "X". UC finished in fourth place after falling to Haley Golden and Morgan Vaughn in the bronze medal match.
UC's final mixed team competed in barebow, where
Noah Fields and Kimberly Wheat lost 6-0 to Nicolle Stanfill and Ralph Chance of William Carey.
In addition to the mixed team results, archers shot 72 arrows of qualification today. UC had a six top-five placements led by Carr, who posted the top qualifying mark in women's bowhunter. Carr shot a 331 opening round and followed that up with a 320 in round two for a total of 651. The senior notched 23 10's and 8 "X" on the day.
McKenzie Gaines in sixth place with a two round score of 629, while
Michaela McDonald tallied a 585 to be ranked 17
th.
The Patriots had pair of top five finishers in both the men's bowhunter and men's compound divisions. In men's bowhunter, Dixon recorded a 644 to be in second place, three points back. The senior shot a 336 in the opening round and followed it up with a 328.
Aaron Adams is in fourth place after tallying a 333, 323 to be at 656 midway through qualifying.
Isenhoff and
Jase Boils finished second and third, respectfully, in the compound men's division. Isenhoff shot a 343 in round one and followed that up with a 344 in round two for a 144 arrow total of 687 with 41 10's and 18 "X". Boils recorded a 348 in the first round, the best score of the round to finish with a 683.
Miller is UC's final archer to be ranked in the top-five after posting a 668 through two rounds. Miller, the MSC Shooter of the Year, shot a 335 in round one, before shooting a 333 in the second round. The freshman hit 29 10's and 14 "X" on the day.
Also shooting in women's compound,
Samantha Rayburn is in 17
th with a 668,
Tara Currie notched a 633 to be in 26
th, and
Sara Sherman shot 622 for 31
st place. On the men's side
Clint Moore recorded a 670 to be in 15
th place.
Jeremiah Jones tallied a 633 to be 18
th in men's bowhunter, while
Gertrude Heavner is ranked 20
th with a 582.
Miranda Lauria is ranked 28
th in women's recurve after shoot a 482 thru two rounds.
Cumberlands will return to the range tomorrow for the second day of competition at the USA Outdoor Regional. The day will consist of two qualification rounds in the morning and then team rounds in the afternoon.
