Williamsburg, KY – After a successful week in Patriots athletics, swimmer Hanne te Velthuis and men's wrestler Weston Milnes were selected as the Domino's Athletes of the Week, announced by the athletic department Monday.
Te Velthuis was named the female athlete of the week honors after recording five wins and five national cuts during UC's virtual meet with Loyola and Midway. Te Velthuis took top honors in the 100 free (53.24), 50 free (24.18), and 200 free (1:56.82). That performance gives the sophomore the top time in the NAIA in both the 100 and 200 free, while being ranked in the 50 free. In addition to her individual success, te Velthuis anchored UC's 200 medley relay (1:46.84), and 200 free relay (1:38.09) to wins and the fastest time in the NAIA this season.
Milnes earned the male athlete of the week honors after winning the 72 kilogram division at the UWW Greco-Roman Junior Nationals. The freshman rose to the top, going 4-0 to capture the national title. What was even more impressive about that run was that he posted three-straight tech fall victories and never surrounded a point on the weekend. In his championship match, Milnes tallied a pair of four-point maneuvers to defeat Robert Perez III 8-0.
