Bowling Green, KY – The University of the Cumberlands cheerleading team recorded a season-high 83.97 points to finish runner-up at the Mid-South Conference Championship Saturday afternoon at Bowling Green High School. UC capture one stunt group title, while four Patriots earned MSC all-conference honors.
"This team overcame a lot of adversity this week and performed a flawless routine today," said Head Coach
RJ Conroy. "They left it all on the mat and I'm extremely proud of their effort."
The Patriots performed a flawless routine to earn their highest score of the season and had zero deductions. The score was also three points higher than Cumberlands score last year.
In addition to the team success, UC won the mixed stunt award with 285.6 points to pull away from the field.
Noah Colorusso,
Amari Cotton,
Phebe McHargue, and
Lauren Stokes comprised the team that won by over 35 points.
Breanna Smith led the Patriots by notching her third straight first team all-conference honors.
Mishaela Feltner also garnered her second straight first-team all-conference accolades, while McHargue was the third Patriot to earn first team honors.
Jeremiah McKibben earned second team honors for the second time in his career.
With the average score of 80.78, the Patriots are ranked fourth in the NAIA so far this season behind Loyola, Oklahoma City, and Central Methodist.
The Patriots will return to the mat Friday, February 28, when they travel to Georgetown, KY to compete at the NAIA Regional Championships. UC is seeking its second straight NAIA National Championship appearance.
