Williamsburg, KY – With the conclusion of the 13 regional sites last week, the UC archery team recorded ten top-ten finishes, including one national champion for the 2020 USA Indoor National Championship, announced Monday. In addition to the top ten finishers, the Patriots had eight shooters qualify for the Collegiate Finals.
Sarah Purtee led a trio of Patriots to podium finishes in the women's bowhunter division. Purtee posted a pair of national records after shooting 592 on day two of the regionals to finish the tournament with an 1177 for her first national title as a Patriot.
Teammate
Madison Cox earned the silver medal with a score of 1175, while
Kaitlyn Shields posted a bronze medal with a score of 1167 to sweep the podium in the women's bowhunter class. It marks the second straight championship in which Cox found herself on the podium.
Michaela McDonald notched a top-ten finish as her 1155 placed her sixth in the bowhunter division.
Brooke Miller reached the podium for the fifth time at a national championship after finishing third in women's compound. The sophomore shot an 1164, including 84 10's and 36 9's to earn the bronze medal. In addition to qualifying for the Collegiate Finals, Miller also finished top eight in the senior division and will compete in the senior division as well.
Hannah Moose placed eighth in the women's compound division after shooting an 1147 over the two days regional.
Cumberlands had three shooters finish in the top-ten of the men's bowhunter division led by
Elliott Cross, who finished fifth with score of 1183. The freshman carded a 298 in the second round and finished the regionals with 103 10's.
Caleb Dixon placed seventh, while
Hunter Larese finished tenth with scores of 1181 and 1174, respectfully.
UC's final top-ten finisher came in the men's compound class, where
Clay Weaver carded an 1171 to finish tenth.

Miranda Lauria (recurve),
Jase Boils (compound),
Aaron Adams (compound), and
Omni Dudley (compound) all placed in the top-15 of their respective classes.

The Patriots will return to action Thursday, March 19, as Purtee, Cox, Shields, McDoanald, Cross, Dixon, Miller, and Moose travel to Louisville, KY to take part in the Collegiate Finals. Shooting is set to begin at 8 a.m.
