Marion, IN –
Leonardo Daley led the Patriots charge at Indiana Wesleyan this weekend, posting the men's track & field team's top-time.
Matthew Chavers and
Ken Cobb followed close with runner-up finishes.
Daley posted a new career best time in the 60 meter hurdles on Friday night, noting the fastest qualification time of 8.29 seconds. He improved that number a day later in the finals, once again placing at the top of the field. A finals time of 8.25 seconds not only posted a new career best or improved his program record, but it also holds his position in the top-10 in the NAIA for the event.
In the long jump pit, Chavers silvered his second appearance on the board this season with a leap of 6.92 meters. It is a new season best for the second-year jumper, noting the mark on his second attempt of the day. The new best measure will likely move him into the top-15 best marks of the season in the NAIA.
Ken Cobb meanwhile noted the fastest qualification time in Friday's prelims as well for the 60 meter dash. A time of 6.96 seconds matches his previous season best, a time that ranks him 14th in the NAIA. In the finals a day later, his seven-flat finish was almost the winning time but came up short by thousandths of a second to finish runner-up.
The Patriots placed fourth at pole vault in the form of
Tristan Petrey. He cleared 4.35 meters on his second attempt at the height in his collegiate debut. Petrey set the bar for personal improvement through the season, high enough to potentially rank in the top-20 of the NAIA this season.
Keith Williams narrowly missed the finals in the 200 meters, finishing ninth on time in the prelims. In his first appearance in the event, he clocked 23.53 seconds across the line.
Chandler Powell rounded out the athletes representing Cumberlands at the invitational, placing 14th overall in high jump while clearing 1.71 meters.
Patriots track & field will travel to Fort Wayne, IN for the second time this season for Friday's Warrior Invite, hosted by Indiana Tech.
