Three First Half Goals Leads to Missouri Valley Advancing to Championship Game

Williamsburg, KY – Second-seed Missouri Valley tallied three first half goals to defeated the third-seed Trinity Christian 3-2 Thursday night at UC Soccer Complex.  With the win Missouri Valley advances to the championship game of the Williamsburg Bracket Saturday night.

With the win the Vikings improve to 13-7 on the year, while the Trolls close out the season 13-4.  Missouri Valley's Valentina Cardoso Rodriguez recorded a brace, while Trinity Christian's Selah Hopkins notched three points in the game. 

Missouri Valley fired the first shot of the game, however Ally Kranstz was there for the save keeping the game scoreless.  Less than a minute later, Paola Ochoa connected with Valentine Cardoso Rodriguez for a goal to give the Vikings a 1-0 lead four minutes into the game.  Trinity Christian looked for the equalizer with two shots and a corner kick but couldn't convert.  The score remained 1-0 until the 13' when Nicole Rubio sent a cross to Paula Sanabria for a goal extending Missouri Valley's lead to 2-0.  The Vikings added another goal as Cardoso Rodriguez netted her second goal of the game to give Missouri Valley a 3-0 lead with 21:19 remaining.  Trinity Christian cut into their deficit as Selah Hopkins found Kara Amidon, who fired a lasered into the upper right corner of the goal to make it 3-1 with 13:29 left in the first half.  The two teams combined for four shots over the final 13 minutes of the first half, however, neither could convert keeping Missouri Valley with a 3-1 lead at the break.

Trinity Christian came out strong in the second half with two shots and a corner kick over the first eight minutes.  The two teams continued to traded shots as both keepers recorded a save to keep the score 3-1.  Midway through the second half Brianna Uhl pass the ball into the box as Hopkins fired the shot into the back of the cage cutting the score to 3-2.  The Trolls looked for equalizer with three shots over the final 20 minutes off play, including a shot from Katie Drenth that hit off the crossbar.  Missouri Valley holds on for the 3-2 win.

Missouri Valley will face top-seed Cumberlands, who won their game 5-0 over Mount Vernon Nazerene, on Saturday at 6 p.m. at the UC Soccer Complex.
