Gulf Shores, AL – Freshman Carson Johnson, making his NAIA Outdoor National Championship debut, earned NAIA All-American honors, while a two other Patriots were in action on the track during the second day of competition at the 2021 Outdoor National Championships.  UC is currently sitting in a tie for 23^rd place in the team standings with six points.

Johnson led a pair of Patriots competing in the 5,000 meter racewalk.  The Bowling Green, KY native crossed the line in 23:57.15 to place third in the event.  This marks Johnson's highest finish at a national championship as he earned All-American honors twice at NAIA Indoor nationals.  Johnson got off to a consistent start holding strong in fourth place through the first ten laps, before making his move climbing one spot to third, where he closed out the race with a 1:54.14 split on his final lap for the third place finish. 

Ken Cobb recorded a career-best mark of 10.460 to finish ninth overall in the 100 meter prelims.  Cobb's time was over 0.2 seconds faster then his previous career-best of 10.65 which helped the Huntsville, AL native be the second racer across the finish line in his heat.  Cobb came into the event with the 36^th fastest time in the NAIA this season and just missed qualifying for the finals by 0.009 of a second.

Nicolas Cecioni also competed in the 5,000 racewalk.  The junior was in 12^th place halfway through the race and came through 2,600 mark in 15:09.53 before he was disqualified from the event.

The Patriots will return to the track tomorrow for the final day of competition at the NAIA National Championship.  Tristan Petrey will take part in the men's pole vault competition, which is slated to begin at 2 p.m.
