Montreat, NC – With a few weeks until the NAIA Championships, men's track & field made a push for national qualifications on Friday.
Jhawan Horton recorded a new personal best in hammer, placing fifth overall. He measured 46.84 meters in his first toss of six.
Matthew Chavers tabbed his best outdoor mark of his career with a leap of 7.04 meters off the board in long jump. It was his best mark since his measure of 7.17 meters during his first indoor season in 2020. Chavers noted the mark in his second attempt to carry him to fourth place.

Tristan Petrey continued to impress the pole vault field, matching his previous best outdoor mark of 4.40 meters, also set on the campus on Montreat back in March. The rookie cleared the height on his second attempt, placing third overall.
Nicolas Cecioni walked his way to a sixth place finish in the 5,000-meter racewalk finals. He noted a time of 31:01.13. While not a new best, the junior shaved 22 seconds off his last performance at Montreat earlier in March.
Keith Williams was the only of three Patriots to place top-eight in the 400 meters, rounding the lap in 50.40 seconds.
Ken Cobb came within reach with a 50.77-second sprint for 10th in his first attempt at the distance as a Patriot.

Miguel Reis looked to improve their 4x100-meter time, narrowing in on the mark but coming within reach at the last chance meet. The combined for a time of 42.35 seconds, .33 off their fastest.
