Williamsburg, KY – After they each posted strong performances on the week guard Kaylie Monday and swimmer Ruben Gonzalez de Oliveira have been selected as the Pepsi Athletes of the Week, announced by the athletic department Monday.
 
Monday was named the female athlete of the week after tallying a career game in UC's 73-67 win over Cumberland.  The freshman led the Patriots and tied her career-high with 20 points, 5 steals, and a block.  Monday was the catalyst for UC with six points and four steals in the first quarter to help the Patriots keep in striking distance.  The freshman added six points in the second quarter and converted 5-6 from the charity stripe down the stretch to help the Patriots clinch the game.  Monday is averaging 10.2 points per game and leads the team with 34 steals. 
 
Gonzalez de Oliveira earned the male athlete of the week honors after going winning four races and clipping four national cuts at the Asbury Triple Distance Meet.  The freshman earned "King of the Stroke" for the sprint freestyle as he pulled away from the field.  Gonzalez de Oliveira opened the meet by edging out teammate Enzo Esteves by 0.01 seconds to clock a 21.47 in the 50 free. He followed that up by winning the 100 free with a time of 47.00, before touching the wall in 1:44.34 to win the 200 free. All three of those times were NAIA provisional cuts.  Gonzalez de Oliveira capped off the day by being part of the Patriots winning 200 free relay that achieved an "A" cut with a time of 1:25.97.
