Patriots Ranked 27th in NAIA Learfield Directors’ Cup Standings

Cleveland, OH – Coming off a strong fall season, in which the Patriots saw three of its teams advance to their respective NAIA National Championship the University of the Cumberlands has earned 141.5 points to be ranked 27th in the Fall addition of the NAIA Learfield Directors' Cup.  The Patriots are coming off of a tenth place finish in the Directors' Cup and are seeking their highest finish in program history this season.

For the second straight season, the Patriots women's soccer team reached the NAIA final site.  Cumberlands earned 68.5 points for their ninth place finish. They earned the most points out of any team this fall after going 16-6-2 on the year and closing out the season ranked tenth in the NAIA Coaches' Poll.  UC reached the championship game of the Mid-South Conference tournament for the third consecutive season, before winning the Siloam Springs Bracket in the opening round defeating Benedictine in penalty kicks and knocking off top-seed John Brown 2-0. 

The Patriots also garnered points from men's soccer for the third straight season after they advanced to the NAIA National Championship.  UC earned 25 points from men's soccer, who went 11-6-3 on the season, including an 8-2-1 record in MSC play.  Cumberlands finished tied for second in the conference and advanced to their second consecutive MSC tournament championship game to earn an automatic bid to the NAIA national championship. 

After successfully defending their MSC title, the women's cross country team placed 26th at the NAIA National Championship to earn 48 points.  Cumberlands won three meets on the season, including capturing the conference title by 27 points and an average time of 19:51.  UC won a pair of coaching honors, had the conference freshman of the year, and placed six runners on the all-conference list.

Oregon Tech holds the top spot in the Learfield Standings with 275.5 points, while Indiana Wesleyan and Marian are ranked second and third, respectfully.  The MSC has four schools ranked inside the top-50 of the Learfield Director's Cup standings.

The winter sports standings are scheduled to be released on March 31.  The Learfield Sports Directors' Cup was developed as a joint effort between NACDA and USA Today. Points are awarded based on each institution's finish in 13 sports during their championships.
