Williamsburg, KY – After qualifying for nationals in their respective events, Summer Travis and Leonardo Daley have been selected as the Pepsi Athletes of the Week, announced by the athletic department Monday.
Travis was named the female athlete of the week after becoming the first Patriots women's thrower to qualify for the NAIA Indoor National Championship. The senior took top honors in the women's weight throw with a mark 16.02 meters, clipping the NAIA "B" standard of 15.80m, en route to a new program record. Travis won the event by almost a meter and is currently ranked 20
th in the NAIA and first in the MSC in the event. The Piketon, OH native followed that up with her second win of the day, this time in the shot put, where she made a mark of 12.21m to win by over a half meter in the 37 competitor field. Travis is currently ranked second in the MSC in this event.
Daley earned the male athlete of the week honors after achieving an "A" cut in the 60 meter hurdles at the Triger Paw Classic. The sophomore posted a trio of career-best times on the weekend. After clocking an 8.40 in the prelims, Daley crossed the line in 8.13 to win the 60 hurdles and clip the "A" cut mark of 8.23. The Jamaica native is ranked 11
th in the NAIA and holds the fastest time in the conference. Daley followed that up by posting career-best times in the 60 and 200 meters going 7.13 and 22.90, respectfully.
