Williamsburg, KY – After going unbeaten on the month and climbing in the national rankings, the Patriots men's soccer team has been named the Texas Roadhouse Team of the Month for September, announced by the athletic department Monday. The University of the Cumberlands Athletic Department in conjunction with their corporate partner Texas Roadhouse are presenting the "Texas Roadhouse Team of the Month", which will be award to one Patriot team each month.
Cumberlands went 5-0-1 with a pair of wins over teams that are ranked in the NAIA Top 25 Coaches' Poll on the month. The Patriots outscored their opponents 16-3 over that stretch including three shutouts to help them climb from receiving votes to #13 in the poll. . UC opened the month with back-to-back wins over West Virginia Tech (3-0) and #13 Rio Grande (4-1) close out a five-game road trip that the opened the season on. In their home opener, UC notched a 2-0 over Lyon in their final non-conference game. The Patriots opened Mid-South Conference play with a 4-0 over Freed-Hardeman before defeating #23 Bethel 2-1 in McKenzie, TN. UC closed out the month with a 1-1 tie against Georgetown to move UC to 2-0-1 in conference play.
The Patriots have has six players tally a point on the month, led by
Stephen Appiah. Appiah has recorded nine goals, three assists, and 21 points on the month has he netted at least one goal in all six games. The sophomore has three multi-goal games, two game-winning goals, and even netted the equalizer in UC's 1-1 tie with Georgetown.
Storm Hollensted has tallied two goals and two assists, while
Shuma Sasaki notched five points.
Antonis Seraphides is the third Patriots with multiple goals on the month.
Pablo Vazquez has made 20 saves on the month and has posted a .870 save percentage.
